Family History Gifts

This is second time I have used this service. I had tried to reserch my paternal grandmother's family myself but got stuck very quickly. I was really impressed with the detail and evidence provided by Michelle. Also included were old newspaper articles about family members which I didn't know about, which made the family 'story' a lot more interesting (particularly the dodgy ones! ). It is also nice that I could provide old photographs for Michelle to put in the book. Michelle also investigated some stories my great grandfather told us about his time in the war, and was able to give us some insight and details of the events. My father knew very little about his mother's family and the Family Tree Book was a surprise gift for him. He was absolutely delighted with it.

I had rather lost my way with my family research when my son bought me a 'Gift Day' as a present. Before the day the genealogist, Michelle, asked me for a list of names/problems I wanted to research so that she could be prepared. The day itself lasted about 5 hours starting at 1030 when we met for coffee and a chat about what I would like to achieve. After a packed lunch, Michelle took me round the Society of Genealogist where she explained the various resources located there. Concentrating on my own family research, she then showed me the best way to search various websites. As a follow up to the visit, Michelle sent me detailed notes of what we had covered. The whole experience was interesting and enjoyable and has encouraged me to continue.

Before going to Family History Gifts my Grandmother had made many attempts at researching her family history however each time never got very far. For her 80th Birthday my family and I decided to group together and organised a research package 2 as her birthday present. Although it seemed a little expensive at first, as the research begins you realise the shear amount of work and effort they put in to make sure they don't miss a pebble unturned in the chaos of family heritage. As the research progresses you get constant updates informing you of new findings and you can send it photographs which can be added to your final book. Finally when the report is done you get a fantastic document that becomes invaluable to your family which can be passed on for generations.
