About Green Brae Barn

Tastefully renovated barn, Green Brae is a charming holiday cottage with a stylish interior on the West coast of Scotland. It is situated close to Blackwaterfoot on the south west of the Isle of Arran. Boasting a high standard mix of old charm and modern features, it sleeps six people in two double bedrooms, (one en suite), and a bunk bedroom. The lounge has an arched picture window that looks out over the Shiskine valley and up to the mountains. There is a large dining kitchen with French windows. It is a two minute drive or ten minute walk from a glorious sandy beach which looks over to the Mull of Kintyre.

Easily reached with 20 to 25mn from both ferry ports on the Isle of Arran, 'Green Brae' is a great base for the perfect 'get away from it all' holiday. There are many beautiful walks nearby including one to King's Cave that takes in beach, forest and views to the mountains, and a moorland walk to the the mysterious stone circles at Machrie. Pony trekking is also available nearby.

Arran wildlife includes soaring golden eagles, seals basking on the rocks, deer, sea otters playing in the water, gannets diving and cormorants sunning their wings. Dolphins and porpoises are also regular visitors. The Isle of Arran is known as 'Scotland in miniature' due to its wild mountains in the north and rolling hills in the south, and as the island is only twenty miles long, it is all within easy reach. Arran is also a Scottish paradise for cyclers, mountaineers, sea kayakers, sailers, horse riders, runners and paragliders.

In Blackwaterfoot there is a well-stocked shop and post office, a butcher, a baker, the challenging Shiskine 12 hole golf course alongside the putting green, tennis courts, and a delightful cafe open to all (seasonal opening hours) with a terrace overlooking the sea that serves coffee, cakes and light lunches, and the Kinloch Hotel which opens all day and serves lunches and evening meals using fresh local produce whenever possible.

'Green Brae' holiday cottage on Arran has the following features: Free wi-fi. Upstairs lounge: Picture windows with mountain views, L-shaped sofa, 32" television, DVD/CD with surround sound. Large Kitchen/Dining room: ceramic hob, oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, French windows to courtyard. Main bedroom with en suite and i-doc. All bedding and towels provided. Complimentary toiletries from Arran Aromatics.

We have just spent a delightful week with friends at Green Brae. It was very stylish, beautifully furnished and comfortable. Even with 6 people staying the cottage felt spacious, both the kitchen and lounge were light and roomy and despite there size it still felt warm and cosy. There was plenty to do on Arran, nothing being too far from the cottage. Close to the cottage is King’s Cave, Machrie Moor stone circle and a stunning beach. It is a fantastic place to stay for those interested in natural history and walking or just getting away from it all. We all plan to go back!

Our stay in the cottage was truly memorable for 3 reasons. Firstly, the cottage inside is modern and contemporary and has been finished to a very high spec. It can sometimes feel a bit of gamble when choosing a cottage as the internal pictures don't always live up to expectations but this did and more! Secondly, we found the owners very hospitable. Jackie and Geoff struck the right balance between giving us those gems of knowledge about the best walks and best places to eat without being too intrusive. They have a great knowledge of the island that is well worth picking their brains about. I would recommend asking them about the local cave walk by the beach-it's awesome! Thirdly, the beautiful rugged coastline and the close proximity of the cottage to the beach meant that my 3 year old daughter and our spaniels could have a great time on the beach everyday as it is only a 3 minute drive away. It is also very rare to get such a well furnished cottage that allows dogs.Moreexpand_more

Green Brae is beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you could need. The views from the kitchen and lounge are stunning. The owners live next door and are very welcoming, genuinely anxious that we should have everything we needed to ensure a memorable holiday on Arran.
