About Helena Sanderson: Adventures in History
I'm a genealogist, oral historian, local history researcher and heritage creative practitioner based in the heart of north west England. My research areas are the historic counties of Lancashire, Westmorland and Cumberland.
I've been a genealogist for over twenty years and have an MA in History. I administer oral history projects in Lancashire and the Lake District, I researched the Industrial Revolution in the Scottish Borders for a year long project, and have recently completed an investigation into the Woods farming family of Haslingden, Lancashire.
I've written scripts for augmented realities, present oral history workshops, given talks and presentations about the people and places I've researched. What has happened in the past is what enthralls me in the present.

I have been researching my family tree for many years and consider myself fairly adept at accessing genealogical information. However, one particular line had always eluded me. I gave Helena a few facts and within a couple of hours she had discovered the records that open up this apparent dead end, enabling me to extend this line back several generations. Helena’s research skills are complemented by a genuine passion for history and, in particular, local history, and this is evident in how she presents her findings for the client. I felt she had a real interest in the people I asked her to research, and that made the whole process feel much more personal.
