We have just had our oak floor fitted, quality and service from Orlestone has been superb. It is everything we hoped for. Installed by Daryl who's attention to detail and thoughtful approach was very much appreciated by us.
Ashford Rotary Club purchased an oak gazebo from Orlestone Oak, donating the structure as a community shelter to the people of Ashford. During the planning stage the staff were patient, helpful and knowledgeable. We wanted the build to take place to meet a specific deadline and they were very accommodating, completing it on schedule. The staff also helped us to manage the entire project, arranging the timing of the groundwork and the roofing. We would have been lost without them. We are so pleased with the gazebo. It is of the highest quality. A local councillor described it as an asset for the local community for many years to come.
We purchased reeded profile oak decking boards from Orlestone Oak Sawmill in 2013. We have been very happy with the decking until recently a friend who was visiting us and sitting on a chair on the decking fell, as the leg of the chair went through the decking and a day later when my wife was sitting on a chair a leg also went through the decking in another place. We find there are many places in the decking where the oak is rotten and dangerous. When we approached Orlestone Oak to ask what they could do for us we were told they could do nothing as it was 7 years since they provided the decking boards but if we wished to purchase some more from them that is no problem at all. Oak decking is advertised widely as lasting at least 15 to 20 years, so only lasting less than half that time is not acceptable in our view. The decking is sitting above ground on pine beams that are fine. We are therefore not satisfied that the oak quality is acceptable, but have received no offer from Orlestone Oak to address this issue. We would be interested to hear if anyone else has had this problem particularly with Reeded profile oak decking boards.
Response : Good Morning Peter, Sorry to hear you feel disappointed with our response unfortunately as expressed multiple time's we do not publish that the decking has a 15 yeah + lifetime as it is a natural product. We can not base out products on literature published by other companies. It is also very difficult to offer guarantees when we have not been contracted to do the entire job including fitment. I hope this makes things a little clearer and not that we would just point blank refuse to help, As mentioned in previous correspondence please dont hesitate to get in touch with any future queries. .
I don’t normally write reviews but I have been so impressed with this company from start to finish that I felt the need to spread the word. I’ve completed five house renovations over the last 15 years and have had my fair share of good and bad tradesmen. This company were exceptional. The site visit by Leigh and his ‘can do’ attitude was refreshing but I was concerned that the quote may have been outside my budget. I was pleasantly surprised and found them cheaper than other specialist door/ window companies. The order was turned around in no time at all and Glenn kept me updated. I visited the workshop and was blown away with the range and products on offer. I am now waiting on a new staircase and will certainly look to order doors and flooring to finish my build. Thank you for a professional product I only wish I had found you years ago.Moreexpand_more
Response : Thank you very much for you great feedback. The team are always so happy to hear there work is appreciated. We look forward to dealing with you again in the future.
Orlestone Oak team were excellent, from start understanding and listening to what we wanted, including a custom coloured finish, through quote, fitting and follow up. The team were always on hand throughout easily contactable. We had an engineered oak floor and upstands fitted throughout the whole house. We are very pleased with service, the product and the finish.
Orlestone Oak were so helpful in not only supplying solid oak cladding for our barn conversion at the most reasonable price, they also worked with us to manufacture the cladding to a bespoke design as we hadn't been able to find what we wanted anywhere else. All staff there have been so helpful and accommodating in every aspect of our bespoke requirements for our self build project. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you.
Response : Hello Darren its so good to hear how happy you are with the service and products. We cant wait to see the project completed and look forward to dealing with you again soon.
We took on Orlestone Oak after detailed supplier research of suppliers in Kent and London, a visit to the show-room, and a site visit to our house - a late 15th century cottage. Our cottage can best be described as having very few straight walls, more than a few irregular angles, with some ground floors off level. A challenge! We needed skilled and proven craftsmen for two projects. 1. Build and fit a bespoke solid oak ledge and brace front door with frame and associated fittings. 2. Supply and fit of engineered oak floor boards (210mm wide boards, rustic, circa 80m2), and some solid oak steps to one of the lounges. The results are fantastic, and meet all of our expectations of a quality product. Removal of the old door and frame was undertaken expertly, with minimal damage to the surround, and the new frame and door, iron-mongery fitted over the course of two days - though we were secure at end of day one. The new frame took some adjusting to sit level in our wonky opening, but was aligned perfectly. Additional cosmetic oak facings were made in situ - with considerable attention given to some complex scribing. The floors arrived unstained as requested - allowing me to take on waxing myself. Don't underestimate the work involved in doing this yourself! A different Orlestone contract team of four did the floor fitting for us - and I can't sing their praises highly enough. Professional, thorough, expert - and clearly adept at problem solving with great attention to finish and detailing which required "going the extra mile" to accomplish. We had some serious substrate floor prep to get done before boards could be laid in one room which the team took on - including remedial levelling work to a concrete floor (angle grinding, levelling agents and rewmar sealing). Skirts were all fitted with sunk screws and oak plug concealers. Oak boxing work around radiator piping looked like it would be a joiner's nightmare - but has been extremely well carried out. Stepping fitting (5 bull nose oak steps) involved having to run the steps in seamlessly to butt in the engineered boards. Everything flows perfectly. I felt the wait for the right, endorsed fittings teams was worth it with the evidence in the finish and challenges overcome - not just the outstanding base products.Moreexpand_more
We recently completed a major renovation of our large home in Ashford, Kent. High quality materials and fixtures and fittings were used when we created a new ground floor bedroom with ensuite, a spacious lounge, a new utility room and a new large open plan bespoke kitchen/dining and family area. To compliment the high end look with the renovation, we chose Orlestone Oak for our flooring. The service and help we received from Orlestone in selecting the right flooring was excellent. We were able to take samples away and the advice we were given was extremely helpful. Eventually we chose the Antique Distressed boards with black filler (180mm) and placed an order for 170M2. Having researched the market before hand, the price we paid was very competitive with other suppliers. The floor has been down for 8 months and looks fantastic. Most certainly, it compliments all the other high quality fixtures and fittings in the property and has given us the finish we were trying to achieve. We also purchased a number of oak beams which were installed to the ceilings and walls in the property. The quality and finish to the beams that Orlestone achieved, is exceptional. Also, Orlestone were superb with their delivery, going that extra mile in somehow, lifting them into the appropriate rooms were they needed to be, despite their weight!I would have no hesitation in recommending Orlsestone Oak to anyone looking for oak flooring and beams for their property.Moreexpand_more
We had flooring installed in a small bedroom. The service was good from start to finish, especially the fitter who was clean, tidy and very professional. He even hoovered the lawn when he had finished cutting the floorboards own it! . I was slightly concerned about paying a substantial proportion of the bill in advance as we've been caught out before but the floorboards and other materials turned up on time, in the right quantity and quality and the filter arrived exactly when he said he would on the 2 days he attended. Some return phone calls were a bit long in coming but that was the only negative and in the end everything was completed on time and to a high standard.
I cannot recommend this company. After spending over £12,500 on two brand new floors, although the product and installation (by a freelance contractor they employed) was good, the final finish on our engineered oak parquet floor was so dreadful it had to be re-done by another company I employed at a further substantial cost. It appeared that the floor had not been properly sanded between coats and the wax oil applied was patchy and had not cured. There was also substantial product splashed in several places on the new hand painted units, showing carelessness on site. Orlestone Oak denied any responsibility despite a visit and my pictures. They consistently refused to offer any compensation or help, and finally offered to find me someone to re-do it but only if I paid in advance! I did not accept this 'offer' and instead I can recommend Sussex Wood Floors for a much more professional and careful service. Disappointed and angry at the cost and effort involved.
Have used this company before, purchased full oak frame double garage a few years ago, have also had internal oak doors for our home in 3013, this year tried to buy more of the same, the company never bothered to return calls or emails so left me frustrated and unable to continue with project, however I found a company in Yorkshire on ebay of all places who supplied all materials at around half the price, although I was sceptical, when the goods arrived, the quality was second to none and so I have chosen them to supply a further oakframe outbuilding for my property. I am sorry I have been unable to rely on a local company, but they clearly didnt think I was inportant enough. F, Kent.
After searching months for a company which could provide me with a set of internal doors which would suit my grade 2 listed cottage, I found Orlestone Oak. They allowed me to design my doors completely, and could visit the show room without appointment. The doors were expensive but this reflected their quality- and I couldn't have actually found a better price from any other firm. However, the show room did prove difficult to find- I suggest printing off the map on their website or giving them a call (which I had to do several times on my journey! ).
I am very surprised with the earlier review. Having renovated my house this summer, I was very pleased with the price/performance of the solid oak flooring as I didn't think my original budget would stretch to solid oak. As with another reviewer, the staff advised me on a cheaper and more appropriate type of oak and now the work is finished, I can see that they were right. For a nominal charge, the oak was fully sanded/bevelled before delivery to site. Staff couldn't have been more courteous and they even prepared numerous sample pieces to my specification, so that I could make an informed decision back at home, before confirming the order. Very satisfied and would use them again.
Upon reading the comment bellow I was astounded with the service I received from Orlestone Oak. The manager personally helped me to chose which flooring was right for my project (renovating my house), it was found to be much cheaper than everywhere else I had looked (inside and outside of the Kent area) and the quality of the flooring that I received couldn't have been better! The company told me that they were having a "busy period" and that lead times where around 2 weeks. This was very helpful to me as I didn't consider it to be a particularly long time to wait- bearing in mind all sawing is done at the sawmill itself. (which gave me peace of mind when splashing out on expensive flooring! )Another aspect to note was that I was originally ready to buy the most expensive flooring they had but upon conversations about my property I was recommended a cheaper product which suited my wants more- something I wouldn't have expected from any company- let alone after I read the comment above. I'd recommend this company to anyone who wants a good price, exceptional quality and help finding exactly what you would like.
Couldn't get served, so can't comment on value for money or quality. We should have expected this after the phone call we made about a staircase. I'd say that no amount of quality would give you enough value for the rude, arrogant, obnoxious service you receive. I'm sure there are many other timber flooring companies only too willing to give service and quality. So why bother with such a place as this.
