Simon was on time and took various readings based on the information I was able to give to him. He asked questions and answered my queries with explanations for his findings that were easy to understand. Amazing what you can learn in order to manage and rectify the issues raised when someone takes the time to explain. It all made perfect sense and I felt reassured. Simon was easy to talk to without me feeling that any of my questions were foolish. Thank you. A fair price for his invaluable knowledge and experience.
I am a general practice chartered surveyor with 20+ years experience in property, but when buying a 17th century grade II listed cottage, I found Simon’s advice invaluable. I had already had a building survey undertaken by an experienced surveyor specialising in period properties, but Simon was able to go through the report with me in detail and walk me through the real concerns and issues with the property, offering assurances and practical remedial advice. He was then able to provide an assessment and estimation as to the cost of the works required. Simon was even able to undertake a couple of the jobs for me and I was incredibly grateful to have such an experienced listed building specialist providing the benefit of his knowledge and skill throughout the process. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Simon to anyone dealing with a period building.
I am a Chartered Building Surveyor who has only managed 10 years in older buildings in Norfolk and Suffolk and still come across difficult problems from time to time. I was fortunate to come across Simon on a job I was surveying in Norfolk and he went out of his way to go into a lot of detail about some matters relating to methods of construction and more importantly solutions to on going repair items involving clay lump construction externally finished in original brickwork. I was very pleased with the outcome and for my expanded knowledge, not to mention being able to advise the client of immediate and long term maintenance solutions.
Simon has replaced the plaster on our timber framed walls with lime plaster and has carried out much needed remedial work on the frame which, in parts, was in desperate need of repair. We are very happy with the finished result and during the work he did all possible to minimise the disruption. He also designed and built fitted cupboards in a bedroom, these are very functional and good looking. They have transformed the bedroom which is now a joy to be in. He knows what he is doing and is skilled in doing it, He also adapts and responds to the work and any surprises he uncovers! He discussed options with us at all stages which we appreciated very much. We highly recommend him.
We have been very happy with the service provided by Simon. We discovered that our clay lump house had been rendered in cement and needed completely re-rendering in lime. We also decided to have the lounge replastered in lime as we'll. Simon's work is of a high standard, he is knowledgeable, reliable and trustworthy. We couldn't be happier and I would recommend him to anyone.
We have an old timber framed house with a brick skin and a rendered gable end,in much need of attention and causing a damp problem. Pigsty2Palace removed the old cement render and replaced it with a lime render. They re-pointed the brickwork where necessary, and replaced damaged bricks. The fascia and cappings were all treated. The work was all carried out to a very high standard, and underlying problems identified and rectified. All at a very reasonable price.
Pigsty2 Palace have provided an exceptional service in renovating our old timber framed, wattle and daub barn. Simon Steele displayed superb craftsmanship and a depth of experience during the planning phase and building work. He was flexible in his approach and sensitive to our requests. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him anyone taking ona to a similar project.
I had a stable door, painted, fitted, glazed and dressed. The work was done efficiently and quickly, and completed to a good standard. Mr Steele was helpful and accommodating to provide what I required, and cleaned, removed waste once the job was complete. Highly recommeded.
Work Done: Upstairs bedroom within Clay lump cottage re-plastered with lime. It's seems very difficult to find a builder that:1. Understands the correct materials and techniques to use on older buildings. 2. Prices reasonably. For me, Pigsty2Palace definitely fulfilled the above. I was pleased with the workmanship, time to start and complete the job, and also the lack of a mess after they left (particularly as this job was upstairs in a house that is already decorated downstairs). We will be confident in using P2P in the near future to lime plaster three more upstairs areas.
