About Yorkshire Loft Ladders

These days most homeowners suffer from a lack of storage space. So many precious items that need to be kept – but where to store it all? That’s where Yorkshire Loft Ladders come in. The company, based locally, offers homeowners the opportunity to maximise their storage space with a loft ladder, 50 sq ft of boarding and a light all fully fitted in less than a day for just £277 + VAT. But it’s not just the affordability of the package the company offers that makes Yorkshire Loft Ladders stand out as manager Paul Robson explains:

‘Our watchwords are Quality, Integrity and Value. Quality in the materials that we use and the fact that all our loft packages are fitted by time served tradesmen so our customers are assured of the best job. Integrity in that we will turn up at the time we say and make sure the house is spotless when we leave, and Value in that we offer our services at a price people can afford. Our business relies on referrals and we got a huge amount of our calls from people who have been referred to us by our existing customers - that simply wouldn’t happen if we didn’t adhere to our overriding principles.

At the end of the day the old adage that happy customers lead to more happy customers is true and we work hard to make that happen for every installation we carry out! ’.

So, if you want to make use of your loft space, however big or small, call Aaron and he’ll be happy to pop round and give you a no obligation quote so you too can make use of your loft!

Would I recommend using this company NO. The £277 deal is to suck you in to get a foot through the door! 50sq ft of boarding is £185 I’m told £30 for the light so £62 for the 2 step ladder + Vat on that £387. 80 total. In hine sight other quotes would have given me £40 sq m including Vat cheaper by £55 as above? (why dose loft ladders use square ft in its pricing)? The initial sales advisor visit was a disaster, I wanted to understand the difference in pricing for the various ladders and hatches compared to the deal price of £277 for 50sq ft and a light (which is actually battery operated)? It was a hash, I did t get what I thought I was getting ie the complete loft boarded only part when it came to the fitters arriving? Because of a 2 hour delay to sort issues out the and the initial fitters doing a good job only half the loft got boarded by 6:15pm - if they stayed and weren’t going to get paid they wouldn’t have got finished until 10:30pm? I said as a matter of duty of care to your work force see if you can come back another day, it was arranged for a new team to come back 2 days time. Guys arrived polite, showed them a picture of what was expected, happy agreed on the finish. There were quick which surprised me, but not when I saw the the finish, it was miss mashed, boards were supposed to be interlocking dove boards, so why were mine laid with off cuts, left overs bits and then screwed down, parts of the floor are uneven? No attention to detail or a professional job or finish had been applied, as in stead of cutting tidily around the loft beams large random gaps and miss matched boards were laid and screwed down. On a safety issue a 12cm gap from one of the beams where you have to kneel through to get to the other side is gaped with a board screws either side BUT NO SUPPORT UNDERNEATH I would say shocking but seeing the rush job and finish just sums it up. I no I should have rejected the work before the fitters left, but who does that, we leave ourselves open, on the experience I have had the lack of quality on the job I wouldn’t have much sympathy or hope on the phone to the head office as the same story lines would emerge, you didn’t say anything at the time, and you haven’t written anything on the form? Reality is when you have time to inspect the job the horrors emerge. Pictures shows the work of the second team, lacks professional attention to detail and promised results, a rush job, under pressure from time to get away back home? Shocking (nice guys, polite, but lacking in respect towards the customer if they think the work carried out was up to standard or left leaving a professional job)?Moreexpand_more

I knew that my loft would be difficult as I live in a chalet style house. They described it as a tunnel loft. The man who came to quote said that I couldn't have a ladder as there wasn't sufficient headroom unless I went for a folding wooden one with a long hatch. This wouldn't have fitted easily on my tiny landing and I'd have had to have the ceiling light moved. Also it was expensive so I opted for boarding one end of the loft, a hatch and the removal of an empty plastic water tank - no ladder. (I had already part boarded the other end myself on 7" legs but found the work very difficult) So far so good. He quoted for 100sq ft of boarding, a hatch and removing the tank at £588. I assumed it was so expensive (compared to their adverts) due to the cramped working conditions and agreed to go ahead as I had struggled to do the work myself and really wanted it done, especially the boarding, but in the meantime I measured the half of the loft myself with a laser measure at 76 sq ft. I was told that they would leave any spare boards for me to use somewhere else. The two men who did the work were polite, kept the space clean and did the work in good time but I wasn't given much chance to check it before I was presented with paperwork to sign and a card machine to pay. All looked fine other than an issue with spare insulation (see below) but it wasn't until I started to move things into the newly boarded part of the loft that I became disillusioned. The hatch is really flimsy plastic and there is a gap of nearly 4cm between one side of the frame and the joist it is screwed into at the edge where the hatch hinges. I would have thought a batten should have filled the gap. If I lean my ladder on the other side the polystyrene insulation catches on my clothes, especially if I'm carrying anything. If I lean the ladder on the hatch side it dents the polystyrene and bends the plastic frame. I can't use the sides due to a narrow landing. After 4 trips up with some boxes the hatch broke at the hinge on one side and fell off. The 'hinge' is just a hollow plastic tube that slots into a hole on the frame. I repaired it myself by filling the hollow with some Polydoh so it's now a lot stronger. I couldn't find any of the promised spare boards. They had only laid 13 4ft x 1ft boards which filled the space fairly well though leaving gaps down the sides, but this is only 52sq ft. They also removed a huge amount of insulation because their boards are only 4" above the joists and they just moved it to the other side of the loft close to my PIV unit which needs clean air space around it. They did bag some of it up when I insisted but I still had to remove quite a bit myself. They didn't take it away though - I had to dispose of it myself, along with the cut up plastic water tank. I really can't see how a cost of nearly £600 can be justified for 13 boards and a very flimsy hatch but quite honestly I'm putting up with it because I don't want to have them back.Moreexpand_more

I had my loft boarded new hatch and ladder, the men worked really hard and I am happy with it. The only problem I have when I phoned to ok the price I did ask if it would be boarded to the chimney breast and I was told yes but when the men finished and I went to look it wasn't passed on on the job sheet as this is the main storage wall I do need a floor there so my husband has to finish it for what I paid I shouldn't be spending more on wood. The men probably would of done it but they were all packed up.

Did not take away plastic and paper packaging from front door. Filled in customer satisfaction form, brought to sign. Toppled a cupboard, left on floor. Did not follow covid rules. Assured they would.
Response : Hi Patricia, this is not to our standard, as it wasn't on the form we knew nothing about it back at the office. We'll call you after the bank holiday if there is anything you require from us to put the situation right.

Fantastic friendly professional staff, all wore face coverings and respected social distancing guidelines. Laid down sheets before entering and respected our property. We had hatch extended and deluxe ladder installed and led light put in. The work was professional and we were pleased with the quality of workmanship, would definitely recommend ? .
